Draconic notes
A sheaf of tightly-written notes, all in Draconic. Taken from the Bag of Holding of the kobold who died alongside a young blue dragon and a half-dragon rider at Goldenfields.
Read 2026-08-12 by Chazlauth. They are standing orders issued to the half-dragon the crew killed, from his master:
1. Acquire the navigation orb — Zephyros's. 2. Avoid storm giants unless discovery is unavoidable. 3. Observe giant envoys on the coast — record, but do not interfere. 4. Spread rumour and gold among the lesser giants — "confusion is sufficient." 5. "Ensure the old sites remain quiet." 6. "If signs of the Old Wyrm of the North appear, withdraw." 7. "Do not impede the designs of the deep speaker." 8. Report any cultist who speaks of alliances as if they were equals.
Chazlauth's reading: the mission is the navigation orb; the giants are being deliberately destabilised rather than merely watched; and some larger alliance is in play, with a hierarchy the notes are careful to police. He named the Old Wyrm of the North as most likely Klauth, an ancient red dragon — ruling out Old Gnawbone and Vexalanthus.
"The deep speaker" drew no comment from Chazlauth and remains unexplained. Set beside Toz's ocean dreams, the drowned callers at the Deep Water Inn, and the Umberlee priestess's warlock, it is the most consequential loose thread the notes contain: whoever the deep speaker is, the Cult of the Dragon knows of them and defers to them.
