Cursed crypt sword

A +1 magical blade pulled from a sarcophagus beneath Nightstone, retrieved via the secret passage into the crypt. A ghost rose in defence of it; Hal and Eno put the ghost down. The blade came away cursed: its bearer grows quietly mistrustful, and rolls at disadvantage on social checks with elves — elves being fey, which is what the curse bites on. Hal has called it "Fey Killer" aloud.

The curse is a choice, not a chain. The sword is not physically stuck to Hal's hand; at the moment he would choose to be rid of it, he chooses not to. Hal the character does not want it. The DM's comparison was Frodo.

Diagnosed 2026-08-12 by the grey priestess of Kelemvor at the Plinth: "This is no ordinary curse. This is what we call grave goods. You stole this from a tomb. This does not belong to you." She named exactly two remedies:

1. Return the sword to where it was found — the crypt beneath Nightstone. 2. Find someone in the lineage of its rightful owner — whoever would have inherited the estate, or a blood descendant — and obtain their permission to carry it.

The sword belonged to the Nandar family of Nightstone. Lady Nandar, the last of them known to the crew, was killed in the cloud giant raid, and there are no known Nandar descendants in Nightstone. Nightstone itself is no longer occupied. A three-day round trip to return the blade was judged not worth making yet, so the curse stands and the sword remains in Hal's hand.
