Umberlee

Goddess of the sea — ferocious, fierce, and by her own priestess's account both a terror and a protector: "Umberlee does love and watch over all of her children on the vast ocean and beyond." She is not popular in Waterdeep, being essentially an evil god, though sailors keep her symbols aboard as superstitious insurance.

Toz first found her named in his holy book of Valkur, in a section on sea beasts and demigods that Valkur contends with. Her priestess at the Plinth later told Toz plainly that "Valkur won't always be there — especially when he is crushed by the sea. Umberlee will eventually defeat him." Pressed on why she hasn't yet: "Those beings are at war, and no war lasts forever."

The eye-coin is an old symbol of hers — shine and corrosion at war on one disc, life and death. The priestess was clear that the coin itself is not cursed and that Umberlee's hand in the Deep Water Inn was not usual. Her reading: a warlock has tapped Umberlee's power and is using it to their own ends. Whether the goddess sanctions it "all depends on the nature of the contract."
